General Discussion / Re: A Sad Day

It's too bad there might not be anymore support for MW4 but that doesn't mean we can't still play it. As long as we have comms and know what the ip for the server (whoever is hosting) then we can keep playing all the cool maps we want to.

As far as I know, that is absolutely correct. IP Connections.

Who knows, someone or a group over at NBT MIGHT step up here and try to take over what it is MekTek has for sale. I know if Dark Phoenix were still involved or if Bryan (MWL leader/owner) were still alive, one of them would have or would try to take over if they could reach an agreement.

I believe Bazz Bashem of Sunder (and of ComGuards) has an in at NBT (the NBT server admin). Perhaps he can shed some light on this.

Love the web site works great.

One problem, it seems to take forever to load up and sometimes I get the

"oh, sorry we ran into a small problem please try back later" screen.

Not sure why. but it happens and or is very slow to come up. once it does, everything is fine

That (long delay but no error screen) and I keep automatically logging out, even though I am not supposed to.

Originally, I did not like MWO because it has almost no joy stick support.
However, with some help from Vettie and Lusankya, I was able to overcome my in-ability to pilot a mech with a mouse. Now I like the game. There are many time when we (Vettie, Lusankya, Buddah, FireDog, Strata Dragoon, Hugh Manatee, PoLaR, and myself will comprise an entire team. You should hear us on comms - it's great!)

(BTW: If you want, FireDog has given me a god link for using a joystick with MWO. I'm at work right now so I cannot give you the link - you will also need to be an MWO forums member).

General Discussion / On-Line game player names
« on: October 28, 2012, 09:52:24 AM »
I have seen any good names of on-line players. I have a few:

"BOHICA" (Bend Over Here It Comes Again) in Mercs.

"SirFuxAlot" also in Mercs.

"Skid Mark" in UT99

Not to mention a lot of Cow biased names in MWO.

I have seen a lot of funny names in MWO. So many In fact, no single name come to mind...

How about you?

Technical Discussion / Re: Is the Net Battletech site gone
« on: October 18, 2012, 06:34:03 PM »
Seems more often than not i cannot get on the Net Battle Tech site any more.  Does anyone know if the site has changed or if something is going on with there site.  I have heard other on TS having the same issues.

Usually i get a message that says:

"oops! Internet explorer cannot find www.netbattletech.com

I have tried searching for other new links but all point to www.netbattletech.com

Buddha

I also use Firefox. However, I do not think it is a web browser issue, I think it is www.netbattletech.com itself.
This happened about a year ago when they re-did the entire web site.
I believe that was due to the fact that it got hacked a lot - maybe it was hacked again?

Here's something I found on Windows XP mode  < http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/install-and-use-windows-xp-mode-in-windows-7 >.

Here's a piece that was very interesting:

"Windows XP Mode was primarily designed to help businesses move from Windows XP to Windows 7. It isn't optimized for graphic-intensive programs such as 3D games ..."  >:(

146
yeah, i dont have a win2k disc.

Win95 fat 16
win 95 fat 32
win98
win98se
winxp
vista
win 7
 those I have, lol

When I said "Windows 2000 onward", I meant a Windows 2000 or later OS (Like XP, Vista, or Win 7).

Also, if you still want to try the VM route, or you need a video card boost, try this < http://dottech.org/freeware-reviews/20971/enhance-graphics-performance-with-3d-analyzer-a-graphics-card-emulator/ >.

yep.  minimal vid characteristics.... dont use a joystick so no biggie there) Win98 works fine. running games in Win98 thru VBox not so much.
i got DosBox working fine so some of Dos Games work just fine with no tweaking, adding or adjustments.
I really only have 2 or 3 games that i like(d) to play (and can now play them again) in DOS. Panzer General 2 awesome hex based board style game with some enhanced graphics player based move and fire in phases in player turns. All the WWII stuff except pacific theatre. the other is the Age of Rifles. Mostly Civil war battles, but also many other based on cannons and rifles (pre flight) wars and battles. It is a great game. Love playing it but some of the larger battles can take a long time.

I am seriously just considering going with a dual boot machine, win 98 and Xp, then leave my 'good XP machine as is XP/Linux Mint boot and my Lappy as Win 7/ Linux Mint. or leav it alone and just use the old Win98 machine for the Mech2 series plus my dos games (they run fine on it too)

The Virtual machines (that I can use on the old XP machine) dont seem to have the ability to load in vid and sound drivers for win 98 thus making Mech2 (series) playable.

it was worth a try.

Just curious, on your VMPlayer, does it recognize your true video adapter and (stand alone) sound card or does it just say standard pci compatible ? If it says standard, have you ever tried to install the win98 drivers for it thru vmplayer? (there may be an older version of vmplayer i CAN use but not worth the effort if it wont let me install the correct vid card and sound card settings...)

I see your point Chief, I had a problem getting any VM to run Mercs 3.1 in virtual Windows XP. In that case, I would try a Win 98 dual-boot as well.

BTW: I believe Windows 2000 onward has a boot manager, so dual booting win Win XP as one of the OS's should work fine.

148
Well Chief, yes and no...

As far as I can tell just about any Virtual Machine (VM) will run Win 98. However, I do not know of any that will let you use a joystick (a mouse will work just fine).

Also, most VM's have minimal video characteristics (but they should be plenty fine  for a Win 98n install).

I would say to give it a try. I play some of my old DOS games in a DOS VM that runs in Windows XP with 4 Meg of RAM.

Oh, VMWare Player runs Win 98 great.
