General Discussion / hard times?
« on: August 01, 2013, 04:14:31 PM »
Things must be getting really hard around here.

I looked at the unemployment here in North Alabama and it really hasn't changed much in the past 3 to 4 months, hovering within a percentage point or so.
I guess, after a few months of unemployment, or whatever, like gas prices rising, as well as food prices, it becomes tougher to get by. I know I am having a harder time stretching my 1$ from month to month, so I can imagine those with a family struggling.

The reason i bring this up is that it struck me today as i was driving back from the market. Times must really be hard around here. I noticed several people putting up signs in their yard. I appears that they are going to try to sell their yards starting Friday. Yeah, its true. I saw four different people putting up signs that said "Yard Sale Starting Friday" with either their address on it or an arrow pointing towards their street or home.

I live in an apartment so i dont really need a yard, but if you are in the market, this weekend is the time to buy around here.

General Discussion / james gandolfini tony soprano
« on: June 20, 2013, 12:07:11 PM »
rip Tony

this saddens me.

The Sopranos was one of the best series available on TV (HBO). I completely enjoyed each and every episode.

With the passing of James Gandolfini, this clearly means no new series (at least with Tony appearing unless they use clips form the original series) and no forthcoming movie (again with the 'real Tony').

he also appeared in many other movies / shows including one of my favs -Crimson Tide with Danzel Washington and Gene Hackman.

As Tony would say  - "wadda gonna do?" shrugs a shoulder and eats a sandwich...

RIP James.

Its a good thing I was Jamming my Stratacaster with my 30w Orange amp and Jimi Hendrix Wah Pedal doing some old Hendrix tunes as best I could at about 1/2 volume level or that sombitch would have woke me up!

General Discussion / Studio Day
« on: May 26, 2013, 01:02:26 PM »
So some of you know I manage a couple of bands and sometimes get to perform with them.

One of the bands had signed up for some studio time yesterday and we were to have a show as well. The show was rescheduled by the venue for some obscure reason, but that worked out for the best.

Our Studio time actually started Thursday and Friday. We took our equipment and did all the set ups and adjustments to dial in pre-sets for the songs we decided to cut. Thursday was mostly drum day as everything has to be placed and mic'd, then tuned to get the right sound. This can take hours and pretty much did. The guitars and vocals are relatively easy.

The studio, had separate rooms for 2 guitars (players), 1 vocalist (the guitar areas are also mic'd for vocals). The bass and drums CAN be in the same room or different ones, just depends on the band. Some bassist sing so like to be separate from the drum kits. Ours was not, and the bassist ran direct to the sound board instead of through amps, so again set up was easy.

Our day started at 10a. We all actually showed up and on time, a good sign. We had 10 tracks to lay down.  By 1.p we had 3 good foundations. We did 2 takes on almost every song to pick the best of the 2. One of our standard songs (all originals by the way), that we ahve been doing since nearly day one, was actually the hardest to get right. Live we just do it and it works. Studio, well, we had to do 6 takes to get it close to what we wanted, lol.

By 8p last night, we had all the songs down and were going back to do any touch ups where needed, beginning with the drums. I only played on 2 of the tracks (acoustic guitar) and 1 rhythm. I actually got them right (after a couple of false starts). When we listened to the playback, we were happy. The lead player, was going to do his solos today as well as the bass touch ups. Vocal will be done later next week.

When we finish the touch ups, we will have 10 tracks ready for mastering. We havent decided on a mastering studio yet, not have we gathered the funds, Lol. However, the tracks came out pretty damn good, There are some effects we want to add, and sound spreading we want to do, but now that the tracks are down, that is a (more or less) simple task using the studio software. What this means is the stereo split applied, some fade in tracks, sound level changes and a few sound effects that we recorded, to place in the songs in certain areas.

Anyway, once all the mix downs are down, i will see if I can place a couple of tracks on soundcloud so I can link them for you guys.

In the mean time I got a couple of photos that someone grabbed of me in the guitar studio. and one of me with our bass player looking in the drum room from the vocal studio...

Smaga - Darloakes - Others who can -

There seems to once again be some issues with the Bloodpearls website.

ONCE you get to it, all is fine.

HOWEVER, some are reporting on comms that they can not even get to it. Ninja can not get to it at all. Lu is reporting issues like being squirrelly . It is not very fast to connect for me.

Can you or can you have someone check this out?

Vettie's Soap Box / MekTek
« on: January 02, 2013, 11:15:06 AM »
Sadly disappointed in MekTek.

Sadly. So much so, I have lost respect for them.

They made promises and did not follow through.

Jeho was a great guy. HIM, I have respect for. I completely understand what happened with him and the things he went through.

That being said, SOMEONE at MekTek, Vince, Whitey, one of you guys, should have picked up the torch and finished what was already there.

You guys had / have your eye on the big $ sign in the sky and did not focus on the what you already told the community you would do. A complete lack of follow through. A 'dis' to all the followers and people, like myself, that donated to you over the years.

Now you are off to pursue something that you hope will bring you lots of money while you never finished what you started, of if you did finish it, you never gave it to the ones that supported you. Why should we follow your latest? Your performance shows that it will end in disappointment for the followers, the fans, the supporters.

Sad. I was was a big supporter, I defended you guys on my blog, on forums, in game, with cash, and, well, I was left out in the cold.

Changing the name, or becoming partners with another studio wont hide who you really are.

At this point, all I can say is that IF I am ever asked, I will speak the truth. This door is shut. Chapter closed.

One more thing, the NDA you had us sign, well that expired. Good Luck on trying to enforce it.

Yes, fellow MechWarriors, I said when i read about MekTek giving up support for MW4 that it was a sad day. After doing some research. Looking around, it doesnt take much to figure out what the guys are up to. I CONTINUE to wish Jeho well and hope things return to normal for him. The rest of the crew there? Pfffttt... Yes, this day may even be sadder than the announcement that they would no longer support MW4. Why? It is the day I lost respect for the MekTek Team, not all of them, but for the most part, well, just never mind... Not worth my time or trouble any more...

General Discussion / Tis the Season
« on: December 23, 2012, 09:45:33 AM »
Many of you will be celebrating the Christmas Holiday very soon. Yes, its that  time of year again.

I just wanted to stop a moment and reflect on what an unusual year I have had. Been from the lowest low (I hope to ever see) to back to (almost) my old self. Through it all, I tried to maintain my sense of humour and still be me.

A strong belief in my faith and a few other things have helped me see another season come this way.

While we dont have the snow on the ground (yet), nor the frigid temps (I hope we dont) my humble home is warm and I have food for my table.

I mentioned "a few other things" just above. Yes, I have some real life, face to face friends that are near and dear to me. The kind of people you dont have to ask, they just do. I am in their corner too, should the need arise.

Another big part of that "few other things" is the people of this forum. Tho we come from all walks of life, live in all parts of the world, talk in our own unique way, we all gather around the keyboard and monitor for some good old fashioned (maybe new fashioned?) fun with one another.

Whether this is your religious time of year or not, I reach out to all of you and wish you a great, safe and happy holiday. I hope that each of you and yours are well and i look forward to having another year roll around and seeing what we can get into. Take care all and Happy Holidays.

Technical Discussion / Vid Card
« on: November 29, 2012, 12:00:05 PM »
hmmm

After the first attempt to replace my system's vid card with one of them there fancy kick ass NVidia high powered make everything look real purty video cards, i have yet again saved the cash to make a purchase of one that hopefully is not broken.

Yes. When i bought my new system, it came with an AMD dedicated video card that CAN run MWO. I have been using it for some time now. My intent was to buy the system and a kick ass vid card at the same time, which I did. However the card I choose would not run in my new system, even after upgrading the power supply.

I tried it in my OLD system. It would not boot into windows period. Funny that Linux would boot up fine and even asked me if I wanted to update the drivers for the newly found card...

Anyway, I returned that card. I have stashed away a little here and there and finally I made a purchase. I went with an AMD (my whole system is AMD based anyway so....). I bought a 7770 oc edition.

Now I am just waiting on the little brown truck to show up...

Status on tracking says "out for delivery"

SoonTM...
